Reports indicate new DS on the way
Japanese news site Nikkei Net is reporting that Nintendo plans to roll out a new DS handheld console, set to arrive in Japan by the end of the year.
While sales of the DS are still strong - earlier this year Nintendo projected sales of 28 million for the fiscal year - it still signifies a slowdown in growth from the previous year, which seems to be all the incentive Nintendo requires.
Reports indicate that the as-yet-unnamed console is set to include a camera function, music playback and improved wireless capabilities. No mention was made of previously speculated upgrades, which included a larger screen, enhanced memory, or a smaller size.
According to Nikkei Net, the redesigned system is set to carry a price tag of about ¥20,000, which translates to just over one hundred pounds.
When approached for comment on the reports, Nintendo UK told CBG: "Nintendo has made no such announcement and will not comment on rumour and speculation."
