The number of degrees related to the games industry on offer in Britain has almost doubled over the past three years, with more than 80 courses now available, according to the Daily Mail.

But some of the industry's luminaries claim that quality of the degrees does not match the quantity, with graduates poorly prepared and lacking vital skill sets.

"I can't remember the last time I employed someone from them," Jamie MacDonald, the vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Europe, told the Daily Mail.

Despite the proliferation of game-related degrees, Skillset, the council that represents the 'creative media' industry, has only accredited four courses as suitable for the industry.

The approved courses include two at the University of Abertay Dundee, one at the University of the West of Scotland and one at the Glamorgan Centre for Art & Design Technology.
